Lydia McCaig
Lydia McCaig’s multidisciplinary practice investigates the relationship between sexuality, power, spectatorship and the construction of the feminine. Through performative photography, video, sound, installation and narrative text, she informs her work through religion, mythology, folklore and New Wave cinema to examine the cultural and symbolic frameworks through which desire is produced, mediated and controlled.
Working with the body as both image and instrument, McCaig explores the intersections of eroticism, ritual and representation, interrogating the boundaries between agency and objectification, the sacred and the profane. Her practice engages with the performative nature of femininity and the seductive power of images, exposing the uneasy space where desire, belief and cultural fantasy converge.
